In the analysis of accident data recorders, we look back on a 25-year history. At Kienzel the first graph charts were evaluated in detail in 1927. With the introduction of the digital tachograph both the Kast GmbH and the evaluation group of Continental AG started the in-depth analysis of the recorded running data.
Since 1.1.2012 the the competence in evaluations for analog tachographs, digital tachographs and accident data memory is organized under the umbrella of the Kast GmbH. The evaluation of the tachograph is concentrated in Villingen-Schwenningen and tkes place in close collaboration with Continental AG..

In the digital recording devices of all manufacturers the legally prescribed data in accordance with Regulation (EEC) are 3821/85 Annex IB are saved. In the devices of VDO and Continental AG non mandatory information is also stored. This includes, depending on the type of device, among other things, a higher resolution of the speed recording, a longer speed recording, external status connections and additional path stamps.
Since the introduction of digital tachographs in 2006, the device software has been adapted regularly. Only with our existing knowledge of the specific characteristics of a device type in combination with a certain software version it is possible to make a thorough evaluation of the information stored in the devices and the driver card. This concerns both, the legally prescribed and the additional stored data. With the help of special equipment, we are often able to save and evaluate data from defective or mechanically damaged devices. Of course, we evaluate the data from devices of all manufacturers.

UDS is a short for accident data recorder. The first devices were developed in the late 80s, after repeated demands from the German traffic court day. UDS devices largely automatically records data of accidents and accident-related events. In addition to the speed and the status of the most relevant controls such as ignition, lights, turn signals and brake light, internal sensors provide high-resolution acceleration data and direction information. Currently, the best known UDS on the market is probably the UDS-AT.
The units are mainly used in fleets throughout Europe. Especially in blue light vehicles, the UDS are widespread.
